A Journey Through Deep Time - Children's School Holiday Activity

Using remarkable Western Australian specimens and real geological stories, this immersive talk brings deep time to life and reveals how scientists piece together the incredible story of our planet. Discover fascinating facts from around WA, tracing evidence from the Earth's formation to present day.

Take a journey through more than 4.5 billion
years of Earth's history, using rocks, fossils and landscapes
from across Western Australia to uncover how our planet has changed through
time. From the oldest evidence of life near
Marble Bar and ancient stromatolites, to the living
thrombolites at Lake Clifton,
discover how these remarkable microbial communities connect directly to some of
the earliest life on Earth.

Explore the formation of Karijini's banded iron formations,
ancient meteorite impacts, volcanic eruptions, mountain building and the
breakup of Gondwana. We'll even uncover the geological story beneath our own
backyard, including how the Darling Fault
helps define the Peel region and follows a major ancient
geological boundary associated with the former connection between India and Western Australia.

Along the way, we'll explore how rocks
form, how landscapes change and how geologists piece together Earth's past,
using fascinating WA specimens to bring deep time to life.

All child participants will go into the draw for a special door prize, announced at the end of the session!
